President's Letter By Mary Cilia
The economy has presented us all with a variety of challenges over the last couple of years. Gas prices rising far too close to $5.00 per gallon; then coming back down to under $2.00. Now it’s sneaking back up again. Recession that has required us all to evaluate what we are spending on new purchases, employees, and perhaps postponing new development.
Our topic for the May dinner meeting (May 17th) is new development, for Cleveland as a whole. Kim McCarty, VP of Business Development with Positively Cleveland will talk about the development projects starting in Cleveland; and most importantly, how your business can get some of the hundreds of millions of dollars that will be spent.

Other events we are planning include the Women’s Business Summit to take place this fall. The event will incorporate the Top 10 awards, but will encompass much more. Half a day of educational sessions to help you grow your business. We are still working on the topics, but if you have ideas of topics you would like to see covered, or if you have a topic you can present, please be sure to contact Cindy Earl (Summit Chair). For now, please mark October 12th on your calendars. Reserve the morning for NAWBO.
We are coming to the end of our program year, culminating with the June 21st Awards and Installation dinner at Shula’s DoubleTree. Over the summer the Board will be planning the 2011-2012 programming year. We will be considering the responses we’ve received from recent surveys, with respect to the types of topics you want to see, an increase in networking opportunities, and a change in the time and date of our monthly meetings. So if you haven’t been able to attend many dinner meetings because of a conflict in schedule, our next year’s programming will make it easier for you.
As always, if you have any ideas, be sure to call or email me, or any of the Board members.
Mary
